Job Description

Barista Position

Hearts and Hands of Care is looking for a Barista to join our team. The Barista will work in a coffee hut, assisting the Supervisor and other staff to achieve profitable sales in the Anchorage location.

Basic Functions:

As a Barista, you are required to meet and greet guests with the utmost courtesy. Creating and making hot, iced or blended drinks. Preparing food upon request. Maintaining the Coffee Shop's cleanliness and organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers as they enter
  • Give customers drink menus and answer their questions regarding ingredients
  • Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios)
  • Prepare beverages following recipes
  • Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins
  • Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
  • Keep the area clean
  • Maintain stock of clean mugs and plates
  • Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs
  • Comply with health and safety regulations
  • Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service
  • Coffee Shop experience or the ability to learn
  • Ability to maintain a confidential working relationship
  • Excellent personal organizational skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain a positive attitude in difficult situations

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age; and have a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Possess and maintain a valid Alaska driver's license and insured vehicle that meets minimum State of Alaska insurance requirements.
  • Able to pass and provide a Background Check that meets State of Alaska requirements.
  • Able and knowledgeable to cope with emergency situations (i.e. accidents, CPR, seizures, etc.), in a calm and efficient manner

Work Environment:

  • Position may require extended hours including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Indoors in a community setting
