Design Engineer

Elkhart, IN - Full Time

 

Productive Resources (is seeking a candidate to be part of our engineering team at our customer's facility. As a member of our team, the selected candidate will be an experienced Design Engineer to joining our engineering team in Elkhart, IN. This role focuses on structural design for vehicles such as campers and motor homes, supporting new product development and improvements to existing designs. The ideal candidate will bring strong CAD expertise, practical design experience, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams.

Duties:

  • Perform 3D modeling and detailed design work using Creo for vehicle structures and components.
  • Develop, refine, and release drawings and engineering documentation in alignment with company standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet performance requirements.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design reviews to validate designs.
  • Support prototype builds and resolve design-related issues during testing and production.
  • Participate in design change processes and maintain accurate, up-to-date engineering records.
  • Apply finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as Ansys (preferred) or similar software to evaluate structural performance and durability.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional design engineering experience, preferably in structural or vehicle-related design.
  • Proficiency in Creo for 3D modeling, assemblies, and drafting.
  • Solid knowledge of structural mechanics, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with FEA tools (Ansys or equivalent) for structural analysis.
  • Background in recreational vehicles, campers, trailers, or motor homes.
  • Hands-on experience supporting prototype builds and product testing.
