Fingerprinting/Workplace screening fee: $118.00

Processing fee for Florida Department of Education application: $75.00

Approved to volunteer and completes fingerprinting through FDLE and FBI after acceptance for coaching role.

Specialization Requirements for Athletic Coaching Endorsement (Rule 6A-4.0282)

• Three (3) semester hours in Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries and the effects and dangers of drug use, including performance?enhancing drugs.
• Three (3) semester hours in coaching theory.
• Three (3) semester hours in theory and practice of coaching a specific sport.
• Valid CPR certificate from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• First Aid certification, including training in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
• Approval for employment and completion of fingerprinting (FDLE/FBI) with results not older than one year.

SDIRC Steps to Employment as an Athletic Coach

1. Submit your application for an Athletic Coaching Certification with the Florida Department of Education.
2. Apply to become an Athletic Coach through the districts website.
3. Wait to be contacted by Human Resources to schedule your orientation appointment. This only occurs once an offer of employment is extended and accepted.

Orientation includes the following fee:

• Fingerprinting/Workplace screening fee: $118.00 payable by credit or debit card only at time of service using Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Discover is not accepted.

Please note: You may not begin employment until the orientation is complete and Human Resources has given final clearance.

Athletic Coaching Certification

All coaches who do not hold a valid Florida Educators Certificate are required to obtain either a Three?Year or Five?Year Florida Athletic Coaching Certificate.

Three?Year Athletic Coaching Certificate

A one?time, nonrenewable three?year certificate in Athletic Coaching may be issued to an individual who:

• Submits an application and the current processing fee of $75.00 with the Florida Department of Education.
• Has been approved to volunteer and completes fingerprinting through the FDLE and FBI after being accepted for a coaching role.

Five?Year Athletic Coaching Certificate

A five?year certificate in Athletic Coaching may be issued to an individual who:

• Submits an application and the current processing fee of $75.00 with the Florida Department of Education.
• Meets the specialization requirements for the Athletic Coaching Endorsement (Rule 6A-4.0282).

Coursework Options

The course requirements may be met through college coursework or the Human Kinetics Athletic Coaching Endorsement program, which is approved under the School District of Indian River Countys Master Inservice Plan.
