HIV/AIDS Surveillance Specialist Galveston County Health Districtis seeking a detail-oriented and driven HIV/AIDS Surveillance Specialist to support crucial public health efforts across Galveston, Brazoria, and Chambers counties. What You'll Do: Surveillance & Case Management - Conduct HIV and syphilis testing, prevention counseling, and condom distribution to at-risk populations
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely submission of HIV/AIDS case reports to DSHS
- Perform case investigations, medical chart abstractions, and partner/needle-sharing notification
- Ensure all cases meet state reporting requirements and follow established protocols
- Coordinate case management services and maintain DIS standards under DSHS guidelines
Outreach & Collaboration - Serve as a liaison between local reporting facilities and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS)
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with healthcare providers, clinics, and public health partners
- Provide education to reporting providers and support accurate, consistent disease reporting
- Attend and deliver training sessions, in-services, and presentations as needed
Data Entry & Record Management - Input and manage case data in electronic medical records (EMRs) and state surveillance databases
- Create and submit Case Report Forms (CRFs) for HIV/AIDS and pediatric exposure cases
- Conduct record searches and investigate incomplete or incorrect information
- Prepare documentation for submission to DSHS, regional offices, and other relevant agencies
Other Responsibilities - Respond to new case assignments within one working day
- Maintain logs and documentation for internal and external reporting
- Adhere to protocols from GCHD, DSHS, and the CDC
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
What We're Looking For: - Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher preferred
- 1+ years of public health, surveillance, or HIV/STD program experience preferred
- Certificate of completion for Foundations of Counseling and Testing (DSHS) preferred
- Must complete HIV Counseling/Testing and FSTDI training within six months of employment
- Phlebotomy experience or ability to complete venipuncture training within six months
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases
- Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with clients and stakeholders
- Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred
- Must obtain CPR certification within six months
- Must be able to travel independently, including fieldwork and provider visits
- Valid Texas Driver's License and insurability required
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Must comply with GCHD immunization and ICS training requirements
- Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
